Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Others Threaten Chinese Cultural Security - Hollywood.com

Lady Gaga just upped her street cred. Apparently, in China, the Ministry of Culture put out a list of songs that are illegal to distribute because they supposedly threaten the country's "national cultural security." Six Lady Gaga songs made the list and Katy Perry, Owl City, Christina Aguilera, Simple Plan, Beyonce, Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys also garnered song bans. Also disallowed: "Jingle Bells." Oddly enough, the Batman remix of the popular Christmas tune is nowhere to be found. Quite curious if you ask me.

The reason for the ban reportedly has nothing to do with content -- at least officially. The basis on paper is that the songs were never submitted to the Chinese government for "approval and registration." Well, I'm sure it's stated somewhere very clearly that all songs ever must be submitted for approval to the Chinese Ministry of Culture. Right?

Just take this as a moment to appreciate the fact that you can sing along to songs about "Disco sticks" and melting "popsicles" here in the good ol' U.S. of A. That's what our forefathers were fighting for, right?
