Kenyon Martin could be joining Denver Nuggets teammate J.R. Smith in China.
The Denver Post is reporting that Martin has received "significant interest" from two teams in the Chinese Basketball Association, and he could be made the highest-paid player in league history, a source told the newspaper.
If Kenyon Martin did sign with a Chinese professional basketball team, the latest he could return to the NBA is mid-March. (AP Photo)With the NBA lockout in full gear, the Nuggets could lose at least three free agents to Chinese teams. Wilson Chandler, also a restricted free agent who joined the Nuggets in February, recently signed with a Chinese team.
All three would have to play for their Chinese teams for the full season as the CBA will not allow players contract opt-outs should the lockout end before the CBA's season ends. The CBA begins in October and ends in mid-February.
According to the Post, with the CBA playoffs going until mid-March, NBA teams could sign any of the three as free agents for the rest of the NBA season.
Martin, 33, averaged 8.6 points and 6.2 rebounds last season for Denver.
